I know a guy who was a missionary for Youth for Christ in Brazil for 40 years. He told of his first Sunday in Brazil before his wife arrived. He went into the church and put all he had in the offering because he was expecting a check in the mail from his mother in law. The check arrived a few days later. On the envelope were three words, Paul Overholt, Brazil. No address. God is good all the time. Gary

Appangler, I gotta say there's some things in that link that I don't agree with.
For myself though, I don't believe I'm under the law to tithe, but do think as with alot of things that under Grace we are required to go alot further than the law ever stated. In saying this I don't want to start a theological debate, but to say that in having an ear for the Lord's word, a willingness in my heart and an understanding that everything I have is his, I have been very blessed in this area. He has been quick to reward and provide when I couldn't do it through my own means. My life has been exceedingly blessed in relation and proportion to how much I give of it, to him.
| Further more, I would like to qualify the above statement by saying I have no idea what I'm talking about |

I have been reading these posts and I think I can relate. I started going to Church about 15 yrs ago. I went because my very smart wife wanted me to and it was best for my kids. She told me we would be giving 10 % to the church every week. I went along because we had the money but I always saw that check as a new boat payment or a new truck payment. It took years for me to get "it". I do not believe you will get or turn a money profit from tithing but I do believe the blessing come when following what God asks of us. We are now in a place where we can do more than 10% and I believe my families blessings are truly blessings. I never bought the new truck but I got a job that provides me with a new truck. The boat is not new but the kids from compassion international are more important to me now than a new boat. I am blessed to have a boat at all. I still struggle with the being selfish thing but as I grow in my walk with the Lord it is getting easier to put what is really important first. Thank you your time reading this.
